12:00 Noon - Acting for artists Hosted by Warren Reed
This presentation looks at comics through the lens of acting and performance. Even in silent or wordless comics, characters are always doing something, and when that inner action isn’t clear, the page falls flat.
I propose simple acting methods as a tool for artists. I show how intention, physical expression, and moment-to-moment change can bring comics to life without adding more text. The session includes short, fun interactive exercises that let participants feel these ideas in their own bodies, not just think about them. It’s practical, accessible, and aimed at giving artists tools they can use immediately.
A lively, hands-on session showing how acting techniques can make comics more expressive and readable, even without words.
1:00 PM Matt Feazell interview. Hosted by Bruce Chrislip.
Hear about the origins of Cynicalman and of Matt’s Not Available Comics publishing empire. Hopefully, we will also find out how Matt broke into pro comics – working with Scott McCloud at Eclipse Comics in the 1980s and, later, how he became a mainstay at Disney Adventures ( a digest magazine that was available at supermarket check-outs coast to coast). If time permits, Matt will also enlighten us on the golden days of “Minicomix Woodstock” at the Chicago Comicon in the 1980s.
